Nine Inmates Charged in Contraband Conspiracy

April 17, 2025

Nine inmates were charged in their part of a conspiracy to introduce contraband into the Barry B. Telford Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. These charges are part of a larger investigation, conducted by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), which led to the arrest of seven Telford Unit staff members last week for engaging in organized activity.

“Corruption is not and will not be tolerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice,” Texas Board of Criminal Justice Chairman Eric Nichols said.  “We appreciate the hard work of the OIG team and our outstanding law enforcement partners in pursuing this investigation into introduction of contraband into our state prison system.”

The following inmates are being charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, bribery/money laundering, and having prohibited substances and items in a correctional facility.

  • Robert Kerry McClure, III (#02151961)
  • Kalup Scott (#01810157)
  • Alvin Blakeman (#02334783)
  • Ronnie Wilson (#01957098)
  • Paul Madison (#02395289)
  • Tre Jackson (#01967091)
  • Broderick Jackson (#01748287)
  • Brian Paul (#01646997)
  • Christopher Pleasant (#02226832)

“There is zero tolerance for contraband in any TDCJ facilities,” OIG Inspector General Lance Coleman said. “Anyone involved in bringing these dangerous narcotics into these units will be held accountable.”

“The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is committed to maintaining the safety and security of its facilities by holding accountable those who introduce contraband into our system,” TDCJ Executive Director Bryan Collier said. “The agency is grateful for the work of OIG in helping to address this issue.”
