Workplace Resolution

Mission

The mission of Support is to proactively maintain and enhance a positive working environment for employees of the Agency. Through interdepartmental coordination, Employee Relations offers empowerment for the employee, support for administration and fact-based responses and recommendations consistent with the Agency's policies.

Workplace Resolution consists of four functional areas:

Intake

The Intake team receives, processes, and directs all work-related complaints for appropriate resolution.

Additionally, to protect the interests of the agency and agency managers, and to ensure the safety and security of agency employees, timely reporting of a potentially serious act is encouraged. The unit official/department head/supervisor must notify the Employee Relations Intake Staff immediately when they become aware of a suicidal employee, and/or an employee who has threatened to harm others, whether on-duty or off-duty, regardless of how the information is received. It is the agency's position that the most effective means of handling a potentially serious act is through prompt reporting and intervention by staff trained to stabilize the situation and get the individual the help they need.

All complaints, comments and/or questions relating to agency employment issues including sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and grievances may be addressed to the Intake team by:

Investigators are charged with investigating claims of harassment or discrimination based upon race, color, sex (including sexual harassment), religion, national origin, age (40 or above), disability, genetic information and retaliation for participating in a "protected activity", special situations, and other cases as directed. These cases are received through Intake. If a case meets the criteria for assignment to fact finding, the investigation begins, and a conclusion is issued in the matter. This information is provided to the proper agency official for action deemed appropriate in the matter.

Additionally, Investigators are responsible for responding to charges of discrimination filed with the Agency. These charges are received from the Texas Workforce Commission, Civil Rights Division and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Grievances

The grievance process is designed to address employment-related matters between employess and/or supervisors. The grievance process offers a way to resolve issues in a constructive and expeditious manner which will enhance a more favorable and effective working environment. The submission of a grievance by an employee shall not be construed as reflecting unfavorably on an employee's good standing, performance, or loyalty to the TDCJ.

Disciplinary

The goal of the disciplinary process is to enhance employee job performance and address conduct issues within the workplace. The mission is to actively foster poster performance or conduct among employee through coaching and mentoring.
