Contact Inmates

Inmates and loved ones can communicate through telephone calls, e-messaging, and mail.

Telephone Calls

Before you can receive calls from an inmate, you must register your telephone number. You will need the inmate’s TDCJ number to register to receive telephone calls.

Register Telephone Number

Eligible inmates can make calls through the following methods:

  • Collect calls - charges are accepted when the inmate calls.
  • Friends and Family Prepaid - After registering your telephone number, you can create an account to deposit money to pay for the inmate's calls.
  • Inmate Telephone Prepaid Debit Account (Securus Debit Account) - The inmate or family can deposit money into the inmate's account.

Inmate telephones are available from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., unless conditions dictate a change. All calls are limited to 30 minutes, and you will hear a warning message one minute before being disconnected. Inmates have unlimited minutes a month.

All calls, except to the attorney of record, are subject to monitoring and recording.

Calls may only be made to home landline telephone numbers, post-paid cell phones, and pre-paid cell phones. No calls are allowed to internet services, 800 numbers, businesses, pay phones, or international numbers.

Victims who do not wish to receive calls from an inmate should contact the Victim Services Division.

E-Messaging

E-messaging allows friends and families to send electronic messages to inmates through tablets. To learn more about this service, visit the JPay website.

Mail

Inmates receive incoming mail through their tablets. Incoming mail should be sent to the digital mail processing center where it will be sorted, scanned, and uploaded to the inmate’s secure tablet. These messages and photos will be scanned in color and can be saved to the tablet to be permanently available for the inmate to enjoy. Exceptions to this include legal mail; media mail; and books, magazines, packages, and other subscriptions from verified or publishers, which should be sent to the unit. Inmates without a tablet will receive printed copies of their correspondence.
