Inmate Families

Family and friends play a pivotal role in the rehabilitation of those incarcerated. Like you, we want your loved one’s time in TDCJ to be productive. Our goal is to help them transform their lives for themselves, their families, and our Texas communities.

TDCJ can be complex. This section of the website is dedicated to helping you help your loved one.

Have a concern?

The agency recommends attempting to resolve unit-based issues at the unit level first. However, if you need additional help, please reach out to the appropriate office below.

Medical Concerns: Contact the Health Services Division at health.services@tdcj.texas.gov or (936) 437‑4271. Note: All inmates are required to sign a release of information form in order for any medical information to be released.

General Family Inquiries: Contact the Office of Family Services at ofs@tdcj.texas.gov.

Criminal Matters: Contact the Office of the Inspector General through their website.

Complaint Resolution: Contact the Office of the Independent Ombudsman at io@tdcj.texas.gov.

Allegations of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment: Contact the Prison Rape Elimination Act Ombudsman at prea.ombudsman@tdcj.texas.gov.
