Fall 2026 National Victim Awareness Dates

September 2026

September 11th: National Day of Service and Remembrance

Every year on the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, 30 million people across the country give back by volunteering their time and re-igniting the spirit of community that carried America through the 9/11 tragedy together. Thanks to volunteers across the country, 9/11 Day has transformed September 11th into the largest day of service in America. To learn how to help or for more information, please go to 911day.org.

September 25th: National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims

September 25th is designated by Congress as the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. This day allows an opportunity to honor the lives of all those lost each year to senseless violent crime, as well as the impact those people had on their loved ones and community. For more information, please visit the National Center for Victims of Crime.

October 2026

National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

According to the Texas Advocacy Project, one in three Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Throughout the month of October, advocates across the nation come together to raise awareness for domestic violence victims. For news, events, and resources, please visit the Domestic Violence Awareness Project.

November 2026

Tie One On for Safety® Campaign

Running from November 1st - January 1st, Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s (MADD) Tie One On for Safety® campaign attempts to bring awareness to the issue of drunk driving by reminding everyone to designate a sober driver while celebrating the holiday season. The days between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve see the highest rate of intoxicated driving crashes every year. During Tie One On For Safety®, you may contact your local MADD chapter to receive a red MADD ribbon to tie onto your vehicle to help raise awareness and encourage sober driving. Visit MADD to learn more about the Tie One On For Safety campaign.

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, observed on November 21, 2026, is organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). This day is dedicated to providing support, connection, and healing for individuals who have lost someone to suicide; offering a safe space for survivors to share their stories, honor their loved ones, and find comfort in a community that understands their grief.
