Leave Without Pay

An employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ or Agency) may be granted leave without pay (LWOP) subject to the provisions established in TDCJ's leave policies. Leave without pay may be granted when it is determined to be in the best interest of the employee and the agency.

Unpaid Leaves
Type of Leave Time Period
Medical: work related Up to 180 calendar days in a rolling 12-month period
Medical: non-work related Up to 180 calendar days in a rolling 12-month period
State Parental Leave Up to 12 workweeks
Family Medical Leave Up to 12 workweeks
Up to 26 workweeks to care for a family member/covered service member
LWOP - Other 30 calendar days in a rolling 12-month period
Military Leave – National Guard or Reserves For the duration of the active-duty period
