Victim Services Division to Host Ceremony Honoring Crime Victims

Huntsville, Texas — The Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Victim Services Division is pleased to invite the public to a special commemorative ceremony on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. The event, held at the Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville, Texas, aims to honor and support victims of crime, as well as the dedicated criminal justice professionals who serve them.

Since 1981, the annual observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) is each year in April. Observed April 21-27, 2024, under the theme “How Would You Help? Options, Services, and Hope for Crime Survivors,” this year’s ceremony serves as a call-to-action for individuals to create safe environments for crime victims to share their experiences. The event seeks to recognize the courage and contributions of victims of crime, while also promoting awareness of victims’ rights and services.

“This year’s theme perfectly captures the spirit of this ceremony. We’re here to honor the victims’ strength, promote awareness of the resources available to support them, and encourage everyone to consider how they can create safe spaces for healing,” Angie McCown director of the Victim Services Division said.

The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., offering attendees an hour of reflection. The Texas Prison Museum, located at 491 TX-75 N, Huntsville, Texas, will serve as the venue for this event.

All members of the public are invited to join the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Victim Services Division at this commemorative ceremony. Together, let us honor crime victims, celebrate their courage, and work towards creating safer communities for all.
