National Reentry Week, April 22-26

Bryan Collier
Executive Director

The mission of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is to provide public safety, promote positive change in offender behavior, reintegrate offenders into society, and assist victims of crime. True public safety occurs when those incarcerated in the TDCJ transform their lives and successfully return to and stay in their communities.

By actively engaging with our community partners, we prepare inmates for a successful reentry into their communities, ultimately contributing to a safer Texas. Through a range of initiatives, such as continuing education, job readiness, and employment opportunities upon release, the TDCJ empowers individuals to unlock their potential.

The hard work and dedication of our employees are instrumental in successfully rehabilitating inmates and helping them reintegrate into their communities. To those employees, I extend my appreciation and gratitude for all you do. Your tireless efforts contribute to the overall safety of our communities.

Next week is National Reentry Week. A week dedicated to raising awareness about reentry and the importance of breaking down barriers for formerly incarcerated individuals. We celebrate the many state and local efforts, partnerships with employers, and all those dedicated to providing second chances. Successful reentry is public safety. I encourage units and staff to engage in planned reentry events in their local areas during the week of April 22-26, 2024.

Thank you to our staff and partners who work alongside us to empower inmates for success upon release.
