Bridgeport Evacuated Due to Carbon Monoxide

June 4, 2026, Update

In response to carbon monoxide detected at the Bridgeport Unit yesterday, all 513 inmates were safely evacuated to the Lindsey and Allred units. Today, technicians will be on-site making necessary repairs.

Thank you to all the hardworking TDCJ staff and local first responders who assisted the agency with response efforts.

Carbon monoxide was detected at the Bridgeport Unit this morning. All individuals were evacuated immediately from the building, and no injuries have been reported.

Out of precaution, the agency will transport the incarcerated population to nearby facilities until the necessary repairs are made.
