Against the Odds: 1 On 1 Mentoring Program

Services Offered: Provides trained mentor for children ages 4 to 15 who have an incarcerated parent in either state or federal prison. The mentor meets with the child at least once per week for a period of one year. Throughout the year, there are planned activities and events for the child to enjoy.

ARK Program - Adults Relating to Kids

Services Offered: The ARK Program helps parents learn to be more accepting of themselves, which empowers them to give and receive unconditional love. Initially assisting female offenders incarcerated at the Plane State Jail, in Dayton, Texas, this program continues its efforts through an aftercare program that works with the families once the parent is out of prison and reunited with their children. Services in the aftercare may include continued parenting classes and referrals to area resources to assist in the transition from prison to community.

Services Offered: Educational programs for predominantly Hispanic families providing parenting skills and family literacy, to include ESL classes and GED preparation courses. Toms® Shoes

Services Offered: The Dallas Bar Association (DBA) has partnered with Toms Shoes in a venture that will provide funding for the Amachi Mentoring Program. For every pair of Toms Shoes purchased by a DBA affiliate, Toms Shoes will donate $8 of that purchase to Amachi (Toms Shoes also donates a brand new pair of their shoes to underpriviledged children in need).

Services Offered: DOORS is a 501c3 organization that, as a "Reentry Connector and Collaborator", is committed to reducing recidivism in our community by two means:

  • serving as a "Reentry Advocate" for formerly incarcerated persons (FIPS) by doing a risk assessment of their criminogenic needs, sending them to "expert" providers for service of those needs, and monitoring them as they work through their service plan for a period of up to four (4) years; and
  • serving as a "Reentry Educator and Trainer" for FIPS' families, service providers and the public, by offering symposiums, seminars, workshops and trainings so that each have the tools at their disposal necessary to effectively work, service and relate to this very special population.
