Commissary Products

Commissary products are readily available at unit commissaries. Commissaries are located at each unit and are staffed by a commissary manager. In order to improve the sales process most of the unit commissaries are also staffed with additional assistant commissary managers. A unit may have more than one unit commissary, which is based on the facility size and sales volume. Authorized offenders may use funds available in their trust fund accounts to purchase merchandise from these unit commissaries. The unit commissaries sell over 700 individual items including snacks, nutritional supplements, personal hygiene, educational supplies, entertainment and clothing. Food items also include kosher products to meet certain religious guidelines and requirements.

In addition, the TDCJ Commissary and Trust Fund Department has utilized an online program, eCommDirect, where friends and family can purchase items for eligible offenders. There are an approved assortment of up to 100 top selling current unit commissary products that may be procured.
