Correctional Officer receives medal of valor for her bravery

CO Ariel Mosley receiving the ACA Medal of Valor by with Brad LivingstonTDCJ Michael Unit correctional officer Ariel Mosley was recently awarded the Medal of Valor by the American Correctional Association (ACA) for her courage in coming to the aid of another correctional officer during an offender assault in April 2015.

Mosley was the first person to arrive to assist CO Anishakia Pope who was struggling with an offender that held her by the neck and torso while attempting to push her over the second floor railing in 7- Building at the Michael Unit.

Mosley immediately reacted by using her carry-on-person chemical agents to disable the offender long enough for Pope to free herself from his grasp. The offender began attacking Pope again and Mosley dispersed additional chemical agents which allowed both officers to reach a safe place within the unit.

Mosley showed a fierce commitment to her fellow officers by protecting officer Pope until additional staff arrived to restrain the assaulting offender and gain control of the situation.

By defending and protecting a fellow officer and demonstrating incredible bravery and courage during a life-threatening situation, officer Mosley became the recipient of the Medal of Valor which was awarded at the American Correctional Association convention in New Orleans in January 2016.
