FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TDCJ employees donate more than $1 million through SECC
Employees throughout the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the first time contributed more than one million dollars to their preferred charities through the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) in 2015.
Hundreds of charities throughout the state and across the nation benefitted from $573,997.20 in TDCJ workers' payroll deductions and $443,495.97 in cash contributions for a total of $1,017,493.17 in SECC donations.
TDCJ's partnership with SECC includes local employee committees which oversee the campaign in their areas. The committees ensure that all local participating charities meet state guidelines. Through TDCJ support of these committees, employees are assured that their donation is received by the charity of their choice.
A monthly payroll deduction option or a contribution at one of the participating TDCJ unit's fundraising events helps meet the needs of thousands of fellow Texans and other U.S. citizens annually. September and October are the designated months for SECC activities which include bake sales and barbecues.
The SECC was formed 23 years ago as a secure and affordable way for state employees to donate to their preferred charities.
