State Counsel for Offenders
Appellate Section
The Appellate Section assists indigent clients seeking appellate relief through appeal of SCFO cases. If a client represented by the Criminal Defense Section is convicted of a crime, attorneys in the Appellate Section will pursue an appeal on behalf of the client. If the Appellate Section pursues the case, an attorney will prepare briefs and may argue the case before the appropriate appellate courts. The Appellate Section also handles appeals and other post-judgment matters arising from the civil defense of those adjudicated as sexually violent predators.
