Go Be the Light
The Peer Support Coach Program is an innovative program that educates and trains qualified inmates in TDCJ to serve as role models and support peers for inmates who want to maintain a healthy drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle. Peer Support Coaches like Scott Flynn offer hope through service by challenging the thinking of those who feel hopeless in their struggle with drug use. Flynn measures himself against a high standard, and to maintain this standard, he asks himself these daily questions:
- Would I follow me?
- Would I listen to me?
- Would I believe in me?
- And, most importantly, would I trust me?
Flynn has a deep dedication for those who are hurting, and he has experienced many testimonies of changed lives, some who feel they would not be alive had it not been for the Peer Support Coach Program. Flynn proudly emphasized that being a Peer Support Coach has taught him and inspired him in ways that he would never have had the opportunity to know had he not become one. He strives to inspire and provide the hope he wanted as a young adult with a substance use disorder.
