Report Fraud, Waste, and Abuse

Report Fraud, Waste, and AbuseHow much does fraud, waste, and abuse impact the agency? According to Texas Board of Criminal Justice Chief Audit Executive, Chris Cirrito:

“Organizations lose between five to seven percent of their revenue and budget to fraud each year. That’s a lot of money, and by having staff report suspicions of fraud, waste, & abuse, we can save a lot of these funds from getting into the hands of the dishonest few and put them towards the important goals and objectives the agency and all of us are committed to seeing through.”

The TDCJ hotline receives complaints of fraud, waste, and abuse in all TDCJ programs, facilities and operations by TDCJ employees or contractors. Complaints may be received directly from TDCJ employees, vendors, or the general public and may be made anonymously.

“It’s important that we are aware of the potential of fraud, and that employees report suspected fraud to the proper authorities. This is key to ensuring accountability as state employees. We should be committed and strive to maintain high professional standards of conduct. I encourage anyone who has information regarding suspected waste, fraud, or abuse of state resources – equipment, personnel, or funds – to report any suspect activity.”

– Jennifer Gonzales, TDCJ Deputy CFO
