You can easily defend yourself against attempts at manipulation by acting with caution.

The following habits will protect you from manipulation:

  • Learn to say “NO”. You can always change your mind
  • Remember an answer of “MAYBE” is often taken as a “YES”
  • Keep everything above board and out in the open
  • Be firm, fair and consistent
  • Remember offenders often see themselves as victims
question An offender tells you that he is not allowed to participate in chapel services because the chaplain doesn’t like him. He asks you to write a letter to the head chaplain on his behalf.
