As a dedicated Certified Volunteer Chaplain’s Assistant at the Dominguez Unit in San Antonio, Texas, Robert Maggot serves four to five days each week, working approximately six hours each day. Recently, due to a vacancy in the chaplain’s position, he has served six days a week during particularly busy times. The duties of a Certified Volunteer Chaplain’s Assistant carry a higher level of responsibility which includes delivery of offender family death notifications; offender phone calls; counseling; and administrative tasks. Mr. Maggot carries these duties out with great integrity and commitment. In addition to his duties, he teaches a class on Tuesdays, and sets up for and often participates in two Saturday worship services. Mr. Maggot is a willing servant with a great attitude. Unit staff considers him to be a member of the chaplaincy team and an asset to the TDCJ. For his outstanding service, Robert Maggot has been selected to receive the Religious Service volunteer award.
