Kenneth “Ken” Hale
Private Facility Contract Monitoring/Oversight Division
Ken Hale began serving at the East Texas Treatment Facility in Henderson, Texas, in 2009, teaching a Sunday School class which averaged 50-60 offenders. The service soon grew to include an offender praise team and choir. To encourage participation by other offenders, Mr. Hale incorporated a time for personal testimonies. Because of his ability to create involvement, and by encouraging the offenders to reach out to others in their dorm and invite them to attend the services, attendance grew to more than 300 offenders in just a few short months. The services have continued to expand to include Spanish speaking classes for a growing Spanish speaking population. Because of the rapid growth, Mr. Hale has recruited additional volunteers to meet the needs for other services and has enlisted his own home church to write letters of encouragement and hope to the offenders. In addition, Mr. Hale has donated Christmas cards for the offenders for the past two years and schedules guest speakers for special presentations. Because of his passion for ministry, and the wonderful job he has done connecting with the offenders and building this ministry service for the offenders, Kenneth Hale has been selected to receive the Private Facilities Contract Monitoring/Oversight Division volunteer award.
