Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Religious Service

2010 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award

Twice each week, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church from Dallas, Texas, faithfully sends two to four volunteers to the Powledge Unit in Palestine, Texas, a 240-mile round trip, to teach Alpha and Voyager classes to offenders. They also send volunteers to teach Alpha classes at the Estes Correctional Center in Venus, Texas, and at the Hutchins State Jail and the Dawson State Jail, located in and around the Dallas area. In addition, this ministry group sends one to three passenger buses to the units in Anderson County to transport the family and friends of offenders for visits. This church and its volunteers have set a tremendous example of dedication and commitment. For their service, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church has been selected to receive the volunteer award for Religious Service.
