Be Free Jail & Prison Ministry, Community Service
Be Free Jail & Prison Ministry was established in 1994 by Ms. Inga Davis. Since that time, this ministry group has provided a volunteer service to halfway houses, jails and prisons. Be Free Jail & Prison Ministry has faithfully volunteered full time at the District Reentry Center (DRC) in Dallas, Texas for the past six (6) years providing offender counseling, religious services and Bible studies. They also provide programming for female offenders through the Female, First and Foremost (F3) Program that includes a self-worth module and JAVA, a cognitive based program for females. These volunteers do whatever they can to ensure the success of the programs at the DRC. They can be seen assisting with administrative duties or escorting offenders as well as providing support and encouragement to the staff. Be Free Jail & Prison Ministry ensures all offenders have clothing, shoes, toiletries and other hygiene items. They are the main provider to the center’s Clothes Closet, they also donate books and Bibles (more than 100,000 between 1994 and 2006) and provide gifts and toys to the children of the offenders at Christmas. For their dedicated work and the difference they make in the lives they have touched, Be Free Jail & Prison Ministry, Inc. has been selected as the recipient for the Community Service Award.
