Reentry and Integration Division

Veteran Services

For those identified veterans, the TDCJ Reentry and Integration Division (RID) assists with:

  • Notifying Veteran Benefits Administration of incarceration
  • VA's Health Care for Re-Entry Veterans Program
  • Obtaining the Military Service Record Discharge of Duty form 214 (DD-214)
  • Apportionment to spouse or children
  • Overpayments
  • VA disability compensation benefits
  • VA pension information
  • Education benefits
  • Scheduling C&P exams at the veteran's unit of assignment
  • Military discharge upgrade assistance
  • Healthcare benefits
  • Housing assistance
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Employment assistance
  • Residential care
  • Case management
  • Veteran programming
  • Veteran peer housing
  • Develop a re-entry plan in cooperation with the veteran, community providers, and family support systems
  • Resuming VA benefits after Incarceration
  • Provide guidebook for Veterans Incarcerated in Texas that provides information about housing, finding, and keeping a job, VA healthcare, mental health services, alcohol and substance abuse treatment, financial assistance, legal assistance, and obtaining federal benefits to name a few
  • Provides the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans guide called "Planning for your Release"
  • Provides contact information for the Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) representative and Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) county service officer for the area where the offender plans to reside upon release

Pre-release appointments with both TVC and MVPN representatives are coordinated and, if needed, coordination with the VA for post release medical continuity of care will be initiated.
