Welcome to the TDCJ Wellness Initiative Now

Wellness Initiative Now is the wellness program for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. It was implemented to promote personal well-being, fitness, and nutrition for all TDCJ employees.

As part of the agency’s mission to improve health and personal well-being, employees are granted eight (8) hours of administrative leave if they provide documentation to certify that they have had an annual/physical exam between January 1, 2021-December 31, 2021.  Employees will provide the documentation from their doctor’s office to their Human Resources Representative, the documentation will need to indicate that they have had an annual/physical exam (Explanation of benefits (EOB) can also be used).  The administrative leave will be valid for one year from the date of the annual exam.  Please keep in mind that employees can only use one physical exam per calendar year.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice encourages all employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19.  As the rollout of the vaccine progresses, it is becoming more available to individuals throughout the state. To check availability in your area, go to the Texas Division of Emergency Management Vaccine Availability Dashboard at  https://tdem.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=3700a84845c5470cb0dc3ddace5c376b. Employees who provide proof of the complete vaccination will be granted eight (8) hours of administrative leave.  See your Human Resources Representative with verification of your COVID-19 vaccination.

2022 Get Fit Texas Challenge

The 2022 Get Fit Texas State (GFT) Agency Physical Activity Challenge is a competition among all Texas state agencies. The purpose of this challenge is to promote regular physical activity while meeting the recommended CDC physical activity guidelines.  This event encourages all state employees to be physically active for at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week for ten weeks.  Employees must complete the minimum recommended level of physical activity (i.e., 150 minutes per week).

Mr. Collier has authorized eight hours of administrative leave for full time employees and four hours for part time employees who successfully complete all 10 weeks of the GFT challenge.  The Get Fit website will indicate that you can print out your completion certificate after six weeks, however, you will not receive the eight/four hours of administrative leave if you do not complete all 10 weeks.

The 2022 challenge will begin on January 10, 2022 and end on March 20, 2022.  All employees can use the GFT free online activity tracking tool to monitor their progress during the challenge, and it will allow employees to keep a record of their GFT physical activity to help stay motivated, accountable, and committed to an exercise routine.

Participation is simple. You can register for the challenge beginning January 3, 2022, using the State Agency Challenge tab and follow the instructions to create a free 2022 profile on the Get Fit Texas website (https://getfittexas.org).  Once the program kicks off on January 10th, you log into the State Agency Challenge tracking system and report your physical activity online. You will need to submit your points every Monday. You may register and record your physical activities from your work computer, and for those employees who do not have internet access at work you may use your personal computer, public internet access, smart phone, IPad, or any other available access to the internet to register and record your physical activity.  Be sure to use your name as listed on the TDCJ Payroll and choose TDCJ as your state agency when creating your profile so that you will be counted as part of TDCJ’s team.   All participants must be registered by January 7, 2021. Once registered, the State Agency Challenge software allows you to record your daily physical activity, view your exercise history, and take part in any challenges offered.
