  • Correctional Institutions Division Director Rick Thaler in September announced the appointment of Paul Morales as director of Region III and Robert Eason as Region IV director. Both new regional directors are 20-year veterans who worked their way up through the TDCJ security ranks. Morales most recently served as senior warden of the Connally Unit in Kenedy while Eason was senior warden at the Robertson Unit in Abilene.
  • Also, Parole Division Director Stuart Jenkins announced the promotion of Jacqueline Dickerson to director of the division’s Region II office in Dallas. Dickerson is a 24-year veteran of TDCJ and most recently served as the assistant regional director in Dallas, where she was responsible for the supervision of 6,000 offenders. She replaces Vicki Hallman.
  • Other announcements included the naming of former Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles (BPP) commissioner and chairman Gerald Garrett as deputy director of the new Reentry and Integration Division. Garrett served as chairman of the BPP from 1999 to 2003 and as a parole commissioner from 2004 to 2007. He most recently served as director of the Texas Youth Commission’s Parole Division, where he also co-directed the agency’s reentry planning efforts.
  • Lisa Howard was named deputy director for Program Monitoring within the Private Facility Contract Monitoring/Oversight Division. Howard began her TDCJ career in 1988 as a parole caseworker in Fort Worth after graduating from University of Texas in Arlington with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She had served as a regional supervisor for contract monitoring since 2002.
  • Garry Kent was selected as deputy director of the Agribusiness, Land and Minerals Department. He began his TDCJ career in 1987 as a correctional officer and, in 1990, joined the department he now helps manage. Kent earned his undergraduate degree in mechanized agriculture from Texas A&M in 1980.
  • George Crippen, RN, MSN, was selected as the chief nursing officer and director of Clinical Administration for the Health Services Division. Crippen has more than 14 years experience in the division and is currently working on a doctoral degree in nursing.
