Running for Heroes

Wow! You have our respect, young man! We learned about Zechariah in a message to us on Facebook. All we can say is thanks.

The world can use a few more people like 11-year-old Florida resident Zechariah Cartledge. He founded Running 4 Heroes Inc. and he is wearing out his shoes logging nearly 550 miles each for a fallen hero. Yesterday, one of those miles was dedicated to our own Correctional Officer Kenneth Harbin who we recently lost to COVID-19.

The video is worth watching but he says, “Once again I pray that everybody at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice stay safe and heal, especially from this corrections officer passing - Kenneth Harbin. He served over 30 years with this department, he was 60 years old. Thirty years is a long time, not a lot of people know how long that is. Over 30 years, in my mind, shows dedication, courage, and sacrifice, and I know that he loved putting on that badge each and every day to serve his community. I’ll always remember him and I hope everybody does.”

We do Zechariah! In fact, this is how TDCJ Correctional Institutions Division Director Lorie Davis and Training and Leader Development Division Director David Yebra reacted to your honoring our Officer.

The Blue Line flag he ran with is being sent to Officer Harbin’s family.
