Black-Edwards named deputy director for Health Services Division
Chris Black-Edwards, RN, BSN, has been selected as deputy director for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Health Services Division, effective May 15.
Black-Edwards became a registered nurse in 1994 and, prior to joining TDCJ, worked in several hospital emergency departments and as an infection control nurse. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from University of Texas at Tyler in 2001 and began her TDCJ career in June 2008 as a contract monitor and quality assurance nurse.
Black-Edwards, a certified correctional nurse manager and health services administrator, was quickly promoted to help manage and monitor delivery of the agency’s health services. In 2011 she assumed oversight responsibility for TDCJ’s Office of Public Health and was selected to become director of Nursing Administration in 2015.
