EDUCATION: Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice, Wayland Baptist University, Lubbock, Texas.
BACKGROUND: In addition to his six years on the Board, Mr. Gutiérrez served 33 years in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement, including 11 years as Sheriff of Lubbock County. He is a former chair of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards and the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments (TCOOMMI) Advisory Board, and past president of both the Texas Corrections Association and the Texas Jail Association. He also has been a volunteer with Hospice of Lubbock, the American Heart Association, United Way, Lubbock Boy Scouts of America and Boys and Girls Clubs.
